Here is a photo of Bridget and her sisters, presumably taken in America in the 1950s.
Bridget was baptized on the 13th February 1881 (according to the "Liben Baptizatorum for the Parish of Ballayhadereen"). When she was 20, she emigrated to the United States, arriving in New York on the 14th April 1901. She had been sponsored by her aunts Maggie Martin and Anne Finn Early who lived in Covington, Kentucky. Bridget lived and worked in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to Ireland for a visit in 1907 returning to the United States on the 18th November 1907.
Bernard Gorman was of Irish ancestry but born in the United States. He was a conductor on the incline -- a sort of trolley that went up a very steep hill in Cincinnati. They lived in the Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati. He did try farming in Brooksville, Kentucky when the children were small but went back to the city and the incline after just a couple years on the farm.
After Bernard's death Bridget went to work in a Catholic High School as a cook. She and her youngest daughter, Teresa, lived at the school. Later they lived with her daughter, Bertha, and her family.
Bridget died at her daughter's home while recovering from surgery.
Many thanks to Mary Bihn of Cincinnati (former daughter-in-law of Bertha Gorman) for all her help with the information on this page.
